Xiaomi phones and tablets are getting a big free upgrade

HyperOS 2 is coming

by · Tech Advisor

Xiaomi users are about to experience a powerful software upgrade for free although there is a small catch.

The tech giant has just announced the launch of HyperOS 2, a major overhaul to its operating system packed with performance, connectivity, and AI enhancements.

HyperOS 2 will first debut with the Xiaomi 15 series and Xiaomi Pad 7 series, and beginning in November, existing phones and tablets will also receive this free update.

The catch is that we don’t yet know when this firmware update will be rolled out globally, including the UK. For now, like the 15 series phones, it’s limited to China but here’s what’s in store when it does arrive.

HyperOS 2 is Xiaomi’s latest version of its Android 15-based operating system, introducing three core innovations – HyperCore, HyperConnect, and HyperAI – to make Xiaomi’s ecosystem faster, more intelligent, and seamlessly interconnected.

HyperCore technology includes a custom scheduler that reduces CPU idle time by 19%, enhancing responsiveness and multitasking. Additionally, dynamic memory management and Storage 2.0 improve app launch speed and maintain consistent gaming performance during intensive use.

HyperConnect enables smooth cross-device interaction within Xiaomi’s ecosystem, letting users transfer apps and data across devices, like moving apps from a phone to a tablet.

Lastly, HyperAI enhances user experience with AI-driven features, such as animated, depth-effect lock screens and dynamic wallpapers. It also introduces real-time voice recognition, transcription during calls, and an AI-based summarisation tool.

Other AI features include the ability to convert sketches into detailed artwork on Xiaomi tablets and real-time bilingual translation, making communication easier across different languages.

HyperOS 2 even includes an AI-powered fraud detection system that can flag suspicious calls or videos.

As said above, HyperOS 2 is set to start rolling out to Xiaomi’s flagships and other devices in November, with broader availability expected through early 2025.

The initial update will include the Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, and Redmi K70 series/Xiaomi 14T series, along with the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4.

By December, the update will expand to devices such as the Xiaomi 13 series, Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, Redmi K60/Xiaomi 13T series, and other models. More devices will get the update in the first half of next year.

As of now, this update schedule is exclusive to devices in China. For users in the UK and US, as mentioned earlier, Xiaomi has yet to announce a release timeline for the international version of HyperOS 2.
