Google has canceled the Pixel Tablet 2, claims a new report, allegedly relying on insider information. The primary reason behind canceling an unreleased product could be poor profit predictions.

Google may have canceled the Pixel Tablet 2

Google released the first-ever Pixel Tablet last year. It is a decent large-screen Android tablet that benefits from blazing-fast updates. Multiple reports indicated Google was readying the second generation of the tablet next year. The search giant was rumored to be planning for an early 2025 release of the Pixel Tablet 2. Interestingly, even the third generation was reportedly in the very early stages of development, with a tentative release planned for 2027.

However, a report emerged yesterday, claiming Google canceled development on the “Pixel Tablet 3”. According to Android Authority, Google hasn’t canceled the third iteration of the tablet. Instead, Google allegedly won’t release the Pixel Tablet 2.

Why won’t Google release the second-generation tablet?

There are several Android tablet makers in the market today. Devices from Xiaomi, Samsung, and many other reputed brands have a lot to offer. Moreover, Android tablets are available at multiple price points.

Google has been building Android OS for large-screen devices. Not just for foldable devices, Android is steadily being modeled to work well on large portable devices. Features such as Desktop Windowing should be available in Android 15 QPR1, expected to arrive next month.

All this development suggests Android tablets have a future. Hence, it is baffling to hear Google terminating the second generation of the Pixel Tablet. It appears Google is unsure of the financial viability of the Pixel Tablet 2. Specifically speaking, Google is not moving ahead reportedly over “concerns that the company would lose money on it.

Recent reports about the Pixel Tablet 2, suggested Google wasn’t going to mess with the external form factor, and perhaps even the aspect ratio of the display. The company was merely going to upgrade the chipset and the camera module. However, this time, Google was reportedly going to sell an official keyboard accessory.
