OnePlus 13R leaked images show flat sides & ceramic back
by Jean Leon · Android HeadlinesThough not the best-selling Android brand, OnePlus is highly rated by the community. Every year, the brand’s flagships and mid-range devices emerge as some of the best options in their segment. The company is currently developing not only the OnePlus 13 but also the more affordable OnePlus 13R, for which leaked images have surfaced.
The “OnePlus R” devices are alternative—and cheaper—versions of the annual main flagship. These phones focus mainly on performance but maintain a balance across all their specs. To reduce the price, there are obvious sacrifices, such as the camera’s capabilities. However, many of the specs are still those of a flagship. The OnePlus 13R is expected to follow a similar line.
Leaked images reveal the design of the OnePlus 13R
Tipster Digital Chat Station posted what appears to be a marketing image of the OnePlus Ace 5 on Weibo. If you’re unaware, the OnePlus R models are global versions of the Ace series, which the brand launches in China. Last year’s powerful OnePlus Ace 3 hit international markets under the OnePlus 12R name. So, the OnePlus Ace 5 image is providing us with our first glimpse at the design of the upcoming OnePlus 13R.
The leaked image shows a design in line with modern trends. That is a completely flat aluminum frame around a screen that is also curve-free. The left side of the phone houses the classic Alert Slider, which years ago was reserved only for the company’s main flagships. The right side is home to the power and volume up/down buttons.
Ceramic back, unique in its segment
The rear area of the device features a clean and minimalist finish, except for the prominent circular camera module. Still, the design of the module is much less prominent than on the OnePlus 12R. That said, this phone could bring a special peculiarity to its segment. According to the source, OnePlus will use ceramic to manufacture its back. This material is usually associated with premium phones, so seeing it on a more affordable model will give it a distinctive touch.
There is also good news regarding the OnePlus 13R’s tech specs. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will power it, according to an earlier leak from the same source. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite is already available, its predecessor is still an extremely powerful flagship SoC. A massive 6,000 mAh battery should keep the lights on for more than a day. Lastly, the phone’s camera system could integrate a 50 MP Sony IMX906 main sensor, a 50 MP Samsung JN1 telephoto camera, and an unknown ultra-wide lens.
