Amazon introduces AI recommendations for sellers and buyers

by · Android Headlines

Amazon has launched multiple Generative AI recommendation tools to simplify and boost the shopping experience. These Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) features are available to resellers as well as customers.

Amazon generative AI improving “More Like This”

One of the features that polarized buyers was the “More Like This” suggestion panel. It was rather rudimentary and suggested items that a customer had already bought or was browsing.

Moving forward, Amazon’s generative AI will reportedly offer recommendations based on the customers’ shopping habits as well as browsing patterns. Additionally, specific hobbies, activities, and holidays would also become important factors for suggestions.

Amazon is also offering a free video generator tool to resellers. This Gen AI tool will absorb a product’s image and its features. It will use this information to produce AI-generated clips. Needless to say, Amazon is betting big on video marketing and could be trying to make this method more accessible and cost-effective.

A live image generator will complement a standard image generator Amazon introduced last year. As the name indicates, this Gen AI tool will allow users to partially animate still images. Some examples include adding a hint of breeze or steam.

Project Amelia to offer Amazon Alexa experience while shopping?

One of the most prolific uses of Gen AI has been in customer service. Amazon too, has introduced “Project Amelia.” This virtual assistant is still in beta, but Amazon assures it will reduce servicing time.

Project Amelia is a chatbot that provides personalized recommendations, insights, and troubleshooting assistance. It appears this AI chatbot is primarily intended to serve third-party Amazon retailers.

Amazon claims Project Amelia is, “geared at improving business performance for third-party Amazon retailers”. This AI chatbot will help retailers get a quick summary and insights about their business on Amazon.

Specifically speaking, retailers can ask Project Amelia how their business is doing, and the AI chatbot will respond with a summary of sales data, website traffic, and year-over-year performance comparisons.

Project Amelia is still in the beta phase and is limited to a small group of US retailers. However, Amazon plans to aggressively expand the AI chatbot’s scope. In other words, this virtual assistant could start answering queries with insights to Amazon retailers around the world, before 2024 ends. Reuters had recently reported that Amazon will be using Anthropic’s Claude AI to power upcoming Alexa improvements. The e-commerce giant could be relying on the same Gen AI for Project Amelia.
