Samsung Brain Health aims to spot early dementia signs using smartphones and wearables
by Tyler Lee · Android HeadlinesBack in the day, if you needed to do a health checkup, you’d go to a doctor. This is because the doctor usually has the equipment needed to run tests. But these days, thanks to our smartphones and wearables, there are certain tests you can do by yourself. In fact, Samsung is taking it one step further by announcing a new Brain Health feature.
Samsung Brain Health can detect early signs of dementia
With CES 2026 around the corner, Samsung has announced a new Brain Health feature. This feature is said to be able to detect cognitive decline in users by analyzing things like everyday voice, gait, and sleep data. This is said to be able to capture early signs of dementia and also alert guardians in an emergency.
The company is expected to set up an experience zone that showcases the Brain Health feature at CES. Users can see how Samsung’s mobile devices and wearables collect the relevant data and how it is analyzed. But it goes beyond just detection. It will apparently create a customized brain training program and offer tips for daily management and improvement.
It’s an interesting feature and goes to show how our smart devices these days are capable of so much more.
Not a replacement for a doctor
That being said, while our devices are becoming more capable, they’re still not replacements for licensed professionals. If your smartwatch or smartphone detects a health anomaly, the correct thing to do is see a doctor about it. You should not attempt to self-diagnose or self-medicate based on the information.
This is because the sensors in our devices aren’t as precise or accurate compared to medical-grade equipment. It might alert you to an abnormal heart rate, but to assume that you’re having a heart attack could be the wrong course of action. We’ve come across multiple stories of how smartwatches have saved lives by alerting the wearer to an irregular heartbeat.
These users then visited their doctor, who diagnosed them and put them on the correct path to recovery. In any case, Samsung’s Brain Health is an interesting feature, and hopefully, we’ll have more details at CES next year.
