GPT-4o mini is more powerful thanks to a silent update

by · Android Headlines

Free ChatGPT users have access to a model called GPT-4o mini, which. This is a less powerful version of GPT-4o, but it still has some chops. According to a new report, OpenAI sent a silent update to GPT-4o mini that makes it much more capable.

These updates came out of nowhere, and they affect the majority of ChatGPT users, so it’s a mystery why the company chose to keep this a secret. It’s possible that they were accidentally released before the official planned launch launch. These are some major updates we’re talking about.

OpenAI delivers a major, but silent, update to GPT-4o mini

There are four key improvements that GPT-4o mini saw in this update, and the first one is multimodality. Free ChatGPT users can now generate images. We tested this out ourselves, and it works. The images created were pretty high-quality. You have the ability to upvote/downvote the images created and download them.

This is neat, but don’t get too excited; you can only generate up to two images each day. So, you’re going to have to choose your prompts wisely.

Uploading files

Next, users are now able to upload files to be digested by GPT-4o mini. You’re able to upload documents like DOC files, Google Doc files, PDFs, images, etc. Just like with image generation, you’re capped at two files every day. So, if you’re trying to get some serious work done, you’re going to have a tough time.

Memory

The third feature is the memory feature. This is something that we saw come to more powerful models several months ago. This feature allows ChatGPT to remember certain information about you so that you don’t have to constantly explain it over and over.

For example, you can tell ChatGPT that you have a peanut allergy, and it will remember that. So, if you start a new conversation, and it has something to do with food, it will remember your allergy, so you won’t have to type it again.

Browsing

Lastly, GPT-4o mini now has a rudimentary searching feature. You can use it to search the internet and surface links to different websites. It’s not quite as robust as a full-fledged search engine, but it’s still very useful.

These features should be available for all or most free ChatGPT users. If you can’t access them, then they haven’t made it to your region.
