Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's GPU may offer 56% performance improvement

by · Android Headlines

Qualcomm has already announced that its next-gen SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, is coming next month. It’s no surprise that there’s a lot of hype around the tech world about the upcoming chip. Last month, we came across some impressive benchmark numbers for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, though most of them revolve around the CPU. Now, a new leak claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s GPU could offer significant improvement over its counterpart.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s GPU could offer up to 56% improvement over the 8 Gen 3

The latest leak claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s GPU, the Adreno 830, will offer a significant GPU performance improvement ranging from 43% to 56%. Per the Weibo post by user “Undying Spirits,” the chipset will reach a GPU clock speed of 1.15GHz. For your reference, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 uses the Adreno 750 GPU running at 770MHz, much lower than what has been claimed for Qualcomm’s next-gen SoC.

That said, this number is lower than what the popular tipster Ice Universe has claimed. Previously, Ice Universe has claimed that clock speeds as high as 1.25Ghz were being tested. Besides, the new GPU reportedly offers 166fps in 3DMark’s Wild Life offscreen test and 44fps in Wild Life Extreme Unlimited.

The possibility of GPU hitting faster clock speed is still there

It is important to note that the GPU benchmark results of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC discussed above are from a QRD (Qualcomm Reference Device) which generally uses the early runs of new SoC.

For the uninitiated, QRDs are smartphones from Qualcomm which it uses for silicon evaluation. So, they might not necessarily aim for the best performance or heat dissipation. As a result, the chipsets might not run at the same clock speed as on the retail version. Therefore, the possibility of the GPU hitting a clock speed of 1.25GHz is still there.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will first power the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro coming this October. We could also see the chipset in the OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13 which are also coming next month. Moreover, reports from earlier this month have also claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be significantly more expensive.
