Google has released the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 factory image and OTA files

Google is actively developing Android 15 for mainstream deployment. The company released the first stable version of Android 15 to Pixel smartphones this month. However, several Pixel devices can run the latest beta version of the operating system.

Google has released the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 update for Pixel devices. This update could be the last major release of the Android 15 QPR1 preview cycle ahead of the December launch.

QPR or Quarterly Platform Releases pack a lot more than bug fixes. They are an excellent indicator of upcoming UI tweaks and new features. Google usually ties these updates to “Pixel Feature Drops”.

QPR releases are not meant for general users. Google released the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 a few weeks ago. The Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 update largely contained bug fixes.

Which Pixel devices are eligible for the latest beta version of Android 15?

As reported by DroidLife, Google has uploaded factory image and OTA files for several generations of Pixel devices starting from Pixel 6. Specifically speaking, Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 is currently available for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

In this update, Google appears to have increased the padding for the Status Bar. This design should better accommodate a large front-facing camera. Additionally, the latest update adds a lighter background to icons when a dark theme is applied.

Besides these minor but noticeable cosmetic changes, Google has fixed at least 12 bugs reported by developers and beta testers. Needless to mention, the Android QPR builds contain experimental features and should be considered unstable. Google releases them so that testers can help the company identify and fix bugs. Pixel smartphone users who wish to participate in the beta testing of the latest Android OS update can join the Android Beta program.
