Platinum Trophy #40: Cult of the Lamb

Hello. Been a minute since the last one, I know, but about 15,000 games have launched in the last few weeks, and Going Platinum sort of fell by the wayside.
But I'm determined to pick up where I left off, and I left off at Cult of the Lamb, a game I was totally enraptured by for a good couple of months.
It's a curious case for me, this one. One half of the game is right up my street (the roguelike action part) and the other half sort of isn't at all (the crafting, survival, management part).
For that reason I probably shouldn't have liked it nearly as much as I did, but the combination of all its elements together is pretty much perfect.
It does something I love to see in games, where every singular aspect of the design feeds into something else.
Going out on a run allows you to gather resources and recruit new members to your cult, then you return home and improve your settlement, which in turn makes you gradually more powerful.
Both parts of the game are quite simple in their execution, but you're never at a loss for things to do; there are new buildings to construct, a new boss to defeat, new followers to brainwash. It's an extremely compelling cycle that I really loved.
It helps that it has a great art style and cartoonish charm that takes the edge off of its dark humour. It's extremely well executed across the board, really — I'm not surprised it's Devolver Digital's biggest game ever.
As for the Trophy hunt, it's another pretty straightforward one. The platinum is surprisingly rare; at the time of writing, only 1.8 per cent of players have unlocked it on the PS5 version.
Looking through the list, it seems the biggest hurdles for people are just collecting things. There are Trophies for getting all the tarot cards, follower skins, and fleeces, and fewer people have unlocked those than have beaten all the bosses without taking damage.
In any case, it's a very fun game, and an enjoyable plat. It took me just under two months, and I really loved every moment.
Cheers, Cult of the Lamb.
