Rumour: Marvel Poised to Attack Free-to-Play RPG Market with 'Project Comet'

Holding out for a 5-Star hero

Easily one of the most lucrative markets in gaming right now, the realm of free-to-play RPGs is a tough nut to crack if you're a newcomer — but a brand as recognisable as Marvel should have a much easier time of it.

According to a barrage of recent leaks, most of which have ended up being shared by @multiversusie on X, Marvel is cooking up a gacha-based action RPG featuring a wide range of playable heroes and villains.

Said leaks are so abundant that it's difficult to deny their legitimacy. This thing, currently code-named 'Project Comet', is almost certainly in development.

The aforementioned account claims that the game is being made by Scopely, which is a "mobile-first" company with offices all over the world.

However, Project Comet's art team apparently shares talent with Marvel Rivals — and so many of the character designs appear to have a similar, stylish edge to them. For what it's worth, I think the leaks look pretty great.

So, the goal here is to definitely try and muscle in on the big gacha market, which is currently dominated by titles like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves.

These massive live service offerings are being updated on a near constant basis, and at this point, they're primarily competing for your time. Project Comet will have to nail the execution if it wants to measure up.

Right now, the game's only been leaked for mobile — but if it's anything like the titles I just mentioned, Marvel will want to get it on as many platforms as possible, including consoles.

Do you think this Project Comet has the potential to upset what is an already packed market? Roll for your favourite characters in the comments section below.
