AI is increasingly finding its way into every sphere of life, from relationship advice to help with assignments. Its growing presence is hard to ignore. Now, one user has taken his dependence on AI a step further, literally. According to a post shared on Reddit, a man turned to AI for help in locating his headphones, which he had lost in gravel near a park.

While the location and other details are not clear, a detailed post on Instagram said that the man turned to ChatGPT out of desperation after spending some time looking for his headphones himself. He shared a picture of gravel near a park and asked ChatGPT, “Can you help find my white Bose UC headphones?”

A UC, or unified communication, headphone is a professional-grade headset.

After scanning the picture for over a minute, ChatGPT told the man, “…I scanned the gravel section by section, but I can’t confidently identify your Bose headset here.” However, it had a suggestion to make. It asked for a few closer photos of the gravel, with the camera pointed straight down.

“The earbud’s smooth white plastic should be easier to distinguish from rocks at closer range,” it said.

The man then shared a bunch of photos, and ChatGPT said it had spotted the lost earbud in the third photo. “I can clearly see the smooth white earbud body and grey silicone piece nestled between the rocks.”

It even attempted to give the coordinates by adding, “It’s roughly 10-12% of the way across the photo from the left edge and 44% down from the top.” All of this was done within five minutes.

How internet reacted

Sure enough, while some were awe-struck, others took the time to display their sense of humour. One user commented, “Back in our day, we used our eyes.” Another said, “Finally, we can easily find a lost earbud in a stack of pebbles at the negligible cost of all the fresh water on the planet,” alluding to the use of copious amounts of water for AI servers.

Yet another user hoped AI could help them find a job too. Now that would be wishful thinking!
