Hyderabad third in e-bus race, pips Mumbai and Ahmedabad

Bengaluru received the highest allocation with 4,500 electric buses

Hyderabad: Hyderabad ranks third among Indian cities set to receive electric buses under the central government’s PM E-DRIVE scheme, behind only Bengaluru and Delhi and ahead of larger metros such as Mumbai.

Bengaluru topped the allocations with 4,500 buses, followed by Delhi at 2,800. Hyderabad was sanctioned 2,200 buses, placing it ahead of Mumbai (1,500), Ahmedabad (1,200) and Pune (1,000) among the 10 cities covered under the scheme.

The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, backed by an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore, came into effect from October 1, 2024. Its stated aim is to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, build out charging infrastructure and strengthen domestic EV manufacturing.

Rounding out the top 10 are Surat (600 buses), Jaipur (450), Chandigarh (428) and Tirupati (350).
