Reno-based Truckee Gaming purchased the Poker Palace in October for $20 million and closed it to remodel the casino, which was previously projected to reopen in April and June.
After extensive renovations and a complete refresh of the casino, Club Fortune North will have a soft opening July 19 and a full opening July 22, Truckee Gaming CEO Ferenc Szony told the Review-Journal on Tuesday.
He had no further comment but said in May that “the renovation ended up being almost a complete redo.”
“The project grew on us but I think it grew in a good way,” he said. “It’s really going to have a contemporary feel and look and is going to be dramatically different from what people remember Poker Palace as, which was an older building that had been added on to multiple times.”
The Poker Palace opened in 1974 at its Las Vegas Boulevard North location near Nellis Air Force Base.
Truckee Gaming, which operates several casinos in Northern Nevada and one in Henderson, also called Club Fortune, is making a multimillion-dollar investment in the transformation of Poker Palace. Plans include new slots and gaming systems, a redesigned bar, expanded restaurant and kitchen space, modernized restrooms, and a complete exterior and interior remodel.
“It’s just taken us longer to get a lot of the work done and the larger scope,” Szony said.
The renovated casino won’t have a poker room or table games, but it will feature a race and sportsbook operated by Boomer’s Sportsbook.
The Club Fortune North website says the casino is being rebuilt with locals in mind.
“Expect the same friendly vibe locals love,” it says. “This isn’t a mega-resort. It’s the kind of casino where the staff know your name, the machines are always buzzing, and the good times never stop.”
