September showers boost Las Vegas as monsoon season ends

Thanks to some late September showers, the Las Vegas Valley chalked up its wettest monsoon season in three years.

However, 2026 still finished well below the monsoon average.

Harry Reid International Airport recorded 0.30 inches of rain last month, about average for September, said Ashley Nickerson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Las Vegas.

That amount elevated Las Vegas to 0.50 inches for the 2026 monsoon season, which ran from June 15 to September 30. It was the 29th driest monsoon season in Las Vegas since record-keeping began in 1937, Nickerson said. The average monsoon season amount is 1.03 inches.

If the valley had gone rainless in September, it would’ve been the 13th driest on record. The wettest-ever monsoon season happened in 1984, when the airport reported 4.16 inches.

Through September 30, Reid has registered 0.99 inches of rain this year, more than two inches below the average of 3.12. Las Vegas receives about four inches of rain in an average calendar year.

In August, the airport recorded 0.18 inches of rain (average is 0.32). Reid saw no measurable rain in July. On June 23, the airport recorded 0.02 inches of rain, breaking a rainless streak of 124 days. It was the only rainfall of the month.
