A half-million EDC attendees to jam I-15 this weekend

Traffic congestion is expected around Southern Nevada later this week as more than 500,000 revelers descend on the region to attend the Electric Daisy Carnival this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

To best handle the influx of drivers, the Nevada Department of Transportation will implement intermittent traffic restrictions and patterns around Interstate 15.

NDOT recommends drivers plan their routes ahead and to allow for extra travel time due to the EDC crowds each day of the event, scheduled to take place Friday through Sunday.

EDC-related traffic implications are as follows:

Between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday

Crews will be carrying out temporary shoulder restriping on I-15 northbound between the Tropical Parkway and Speedway Boulevard off-ramps.

Temporary shoulder restriping is also planned for southbound Las Vegas Boulevard between Sloan Lane and Hollywood Boulevard.

Drivers should use caution due to altered traffic patterns associated with EDC operations.

Between 5 and 11:30 p.m. Wednesday

The I-15 southbound off-ramp to Sahara Avenue eastbound will be closed, as will the Sahara south bridge near Las Vegas Boulevard for the EDC World Parade.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, starting at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds proceeding around the North Strip, passing Circus Circus, Resorts World, Fontainebleau and Sahara Las Vegas. The free event is expected to last 2 1/2 hours.

Between 1 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Sunday

Expect altered traffic patterns on I-15 northbound near Exit 52, Exit 54, and Exit 58 (Apex) during the days EDC will take place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

There will also be traffic impacts on Las Vegas Boulevard between Nellis Boulevard and Apex and on Craig Road between Nellis and Las Vegas Boulevard.

The heaviest delays are expected between 2 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day of EDC, according to NDOT.
