Central London is getting two major new Wetherspoons pubs this autumn

It’s fair to say London is well served by JD Wetherspoon. ’Spoons’ low-priced pints and budget full English breakfasts are sold in over 100 spots around the capital, with 37 boozers in central locations.

By autumn, that number will have risen to 39, thanks to two new pubs set to open later this year.

If, in bygone days, you spent any time running around Shaftesbury Avenue playing video games and racing go-karts, you may have heard that the building once home to the iconic Trocadero indoor theme park is about to be decked out in Spoons’ signature carpets. The new mega-boozer will be over 3,600 square feet in size, fitting 280 covers, and be open daily from 7am to midnight.

The pub group has now revealed the opening date for its first Piccadilly site, which will swing its doors wide from October 13.

Its second new Big Smoke boozer will open on the Strand a month later on November 24.

The Benjamin Franklin, as it’ll be called, has been in the works for a while. JD Wetherspoon was eyeing up the central site in 2024, when it first applied for permission from Westminster City Council to open a pub. After initially being denied due to concerns around noise and disturbance for local residents, the application eventually got the green light earlier this year.

When it opens, the new location right next to Charing Cross station is expected to have space for around 320 people across two floors.

The two pubs are among 12 new Wetherspoons boozers opening around the UK this year, including one in Heathrow T2.
