Fall arrives in North Texas, but the summer heat isn't ready to leave

As autumn begins, North Texans are still sweating through warm temperatures and waiting for sweater weather.

Fall is arriving in North Texas, but the weather still seems to be holding on to summer.

It is officially pumpkin season, and Grapevine’s Market on Main has plenty of fall décor on display. Outside, though, people are still sweating through the North Texas heat.

"It feels like an endless summer," Grapevine Market on Main employee Lauren Feragne said.

Feragne is looking forward to the change of seasons, even if the temperatures have yet to cooperate.

"I'm really looking forward to fall. I love pumpkins. I love sweater weather, soup weather," Feragne said.

Cooler temperatures could also mean more people spending time outside.

"When it's not as hot outside, people are more willing to go to the outdoor mall instead of an indoor mall," Feragne said.

North Texan Fei Banda said she has grown accustomed to the heat.

"I'm a baseball mom. I have no choice, so I'm used to being under the sun," Banda said.

That does not mean she enjoys it.

"I think I still hate, but I'm OK," Banda said.

With temperatures finally dipping below 100 degrees, Banda is enjoying the change.

"This is like a gift to me," Banda said.

For Robert Tolbert, who is visiting Texas from Minnesota for the first time, the North Texas heat has been harder to handle.

"That's how you know I'm not from here. Because I'm sweating, like everything," Tolbert said.

Tolbert said he prefers the changing seasons back home.

"I like my four seasons," Tolbert said. "I think I'd only like to come here for like a week or two. And then, yeah"

Still, he found a bright side to all that North Texas sunshine.

"It's beautiful; you get a lot of great vitamin, natural vitamin from the sun," Tolbert said.

For those who live in North Texas, the hope is that the "feels like" temperatures will soon begin to feel more like fall.

"Very much, very much. Cannot wait," Banda said.

“We're so close to October. I'm really hoping that the cool weather comes soon. I'm tired of this endless summer," Feragne said.
