Coppell moms' ‘Carpool Cheer Up' goes viral

A few moms in Coppell wanted to make carpool a little more interesting...

Anyone who has sat in a school carpool line knows it's about timing, patience, and following instructions. A few moms in Coppell wanted to make it a little more interesting with what they call the Carpool Cheer Up.

"How many ways can you tell someone to pull forward?" Ali Shakesby said. "We really just wanted to have fun with the carpool line. Anyone who has been in one knows how stressful it is. We never would have thought it would become this popular."

Shakesby and Olivia Bale are the co-presidents of the Wilson Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

With the start of the new school year came a renewed push to make the carpool line a little more bearable. That meant blasting the KidzBop and adding some dance moves. One of their videos from this year, posted to social media, has already received 10 million views and counting!

"It was crazy. We just had no idea something like that would happen," Shakesby said.

For Shakesby and Bale, it's about more than just the views.

"Many of the kids who now go to our school were from Pinkerton Elementary School. That school closed down in the 2024-2025 school year because of budget cuts within the district [Coppell ISD]. We wanted to always make those students feel welcome, so this year the laughs meant so much more. The first year was hard, when we were kind of merging two different communities. After the year passed and the second year started, it's felt more like people just have settled in," Bale said.

Shakesby and Bale said they are also actively accepting volunteers for their next 'Carpool Cone'.
