Intel Razor Lake-AX and Razor Lake-S CPUs Will Use Different Core Architectures

Intel is reportedly preparing different CPU architectures for its upcoming Razor Lake-AX and Razor Lake-S processors, allowing each lineup to target a separate part of the PC market. Razor Lake-AX is expected to focus on high-performance laptops and Mini PCs, while Razor Lake-S will target desktop systems with newer CPU cores and overclocking support.

Jaykihn on X reports that Razor Lake-AX will build on Intel’s cancelled Nova Lake-AX design and use Coyote Cove P-cores alongside Arctic Wolf E-cores. The chips are also expected to include Xe3P integrated graphics, giving Intel a more powerful option for systems that need strong CPU and GPU performance in one package.

Razor Lake-AX is expected to compete with AMD’s Halo-class processors and reportedly use on-package memory. Intel is also said to be leaving out overclocking support on these chips, which makes sense for a product line mainly aimed at laptops and compact PCs.

Razor Lake-S gets newer CPU cores

Intel’s Razor Lake-S desktop processors and Razor Lake-H mobile chips are expected to move to newer Griffin Cove P-cores and Golden Eagle E-cores. These architectures should bring further performance and efficiency improvements over the designs used in Arrow Lake and Nova Lake.

Razor Lake-S is also expected to support overclocking and retain the LGA 1954 socket introduced with Nova Lake. Intel has not revealed the final core counts yet, so it remains unclear whether Razor Lake-S will match or exceed Nova Lake’s reported maximum of 52 cores.

Nova Lake processors are expected to arrive before Razor Lake, while the Razor Lake generation is currently expected around 2028. Razor Lake-AX could arrive slightly earlier because Intel is reportedly reusing much of the cancelled Nova Lake-AX design.
