iPhone 20 Could Bring Back Rear Glass for a More Premium Design
by Matt Lawrence · OnMSFTApple may give the iPhone 20 a major design change by replacing the current aluminum-focused construction with a rear glass panel. The change would help Apple create a more premium look for its 20th-anniversary iPhone, although it would also raise new concerns about durability.
A new rumor claims that Apple plans to use a glass back on the iPhone 20, moving away from the design used on recent Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro lineup currently combines aluminum with Ceramic Shield protection, while early reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro models will follow a similar approach.
Fixed-focus digital cameras shared the latest claim on Weibo, although the source previously said that Apple would continue using aluminum for the iPhone 20. Since the newer report directly conflicts with that earlier information, readers should treat the leak with caution until more details appear.
Apple Could Match the Hardware With Liquid Glass
The rumored rear glass design could help the iPhone 20 match Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, which uses light, transparency, and reflections across the screen. Apple may also pair the design with a quad-curved display to create a smoother appearance around the front and back edges.
Ice Universe claims that the interface and hardware design will work together to reflect light around the edges, giving the phone a more connected and polished appearance.
However, a larger glass surface would make the iPhone 20 more vulnerable to cracks and expensive repairs. The material could still improve wireless charging performance while helping Apple create a design that feels different from earlier iPhone models.
Apple may also return to titanium for the frame, although that change could affect heat management. For now, the iPhone 20 design remains uncertain, and Apple’s final material choice will likely become clearer closer to launch.
