Samsung Expects 2nm Chip Projects to More Than Double in 2026

Samsung expects the number of 2-nanometer chip projects secured by its foundry business to more than double in 2026 as demand grows from cloud service providers and high-performance computing companies.

The company confirmed during its latest earnings call that it has secured new 2nm projects from a major cloud service provider and several HPC customers. These clients have already started designing chips that Samsung plans to manufacture using its advanced production process.

Samsung Plans Faster 2nm Production Growth

Samsung expects to increase 2nm production during the second half of 2026 as more customers move their projects into the design and manufacturing stages. The company also continues to discuss advanced chip projects with Broadcom and other major technology firms.

Samsung and Broadcom recently announced a large collaboration covering memory and foundry operations over the next five years. Their agreement is expected to include 2nm manufacturing for future Broadcom chips, although both companies have shared limited details about individual products.

The new customer projects give Samsung stronger momentum as it competes with TSMC for advanced chip orders. Samsung believes improved production yields, higher factory use and price increases have already strengthened the financial performance of its foundry business.

However, Samsung has not confirmed whether the foundry division has returned to full profitability. Management said the recovery continues to gain momentum and expects the business to achieve a turnaround in the near future.

Samsung now plans to focus on stable 2nm production, better yields and more customer orders as it expands its position in cloud computing and high-performance chip manufacturing.
