DLSS 5 Modders Bring Neural Rendering to RTX 20 and RTX 30 GPUs, Old Games and PS2 Emulators

NVIDIA’s leaked DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology is already reaching hardware and games far beyond its expected limits, as modders have enabled the experimental feature on RTX 20 and RTX 30 Series GPUs, older DirectX games, Vulkan titles and even PlayStation 2 emulators.

The leaked runtime originally appeared through NBA 2K27 and was designed around an FP8 workload that heavily favored newer NVIDIA hardware. Early testing on an RTX 3080 showed severe performance losses, with Deep Rock Galactic reportedly dropping from around 138 FPS to just 4 FPS after Neural Rendering was enabled.

X user @DystopianSuns has since reported that modders now have DLSS 5 running on RTX 20 and RTX 30 cards through an FP16 implementation, which better matches the Tensor Core capabilities of Turing and Ampere GPUs. Proper benchmarks remain limited, although the new approach gives older RTX hardware a more practical way to process the leaked model.

DLSS 5 is also reaching games without native support

The RHI 2.4.9 utility now includes ShortFuse’s modified Neural Rendering DLL, extending experimental support across RTX 20, 30, 40 and 50 Series graphics cards while simplifying installation through ReShade and RenoDX tools.

Modders have also demonstrated DLSS 5 in Batman: Arkham Knight despite the DirectX 11 game having no native DLSS support. Other reported tests include Metro 2033 Redux, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, BioShock Remastered, Fable Anniversary and DOOM from 2016.

X user @DystopianSuns has even demonstrated Manhunt running through the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering enabled.

The leaked runtime remains unfinished and unofficial, with heavy performance costs, imperfect motion-vector reconstruction and inconsistent compatibility, but community work has already pushed DLSS 5 across four RTX generations and games built on several older graphics APIs.
