AMD Adds Zen 6 Ryzen Support for Olympic Ridge and Medusa CPUs
by Matt Lawrence · OnMSFTAMD has started adding Ryzen Zen 6 client CPU support to its HSMP driver, covering the upcoming Olympic Ridge, Medusa1, and Medusa2 processor families. The update shows that AMD is preparing its next desktop and laptop chips after introducing Zen 6 in the EPYC 9006 server lineup.
Kernel.org lists Olympic Ridge models 88h to 8Fh, Medusa1 models 80h to 87h, and Medusa2 models E0h to E3h. The patches also add two read-only controls required during early hardware support.
These client processors use a different mailbox system from AMD’s server chips. They rely on fixed SMN addresses and use the Ryzen Master SMC message set instead of server-based message IDs.
Olympic Ridge and Medusa CPU Details
Olympic Ridge will target AM5 desktop systems with up to 24 cores, 48 threads, and as much as 288MB of L3 cache. The lineup will use Zen 6, Zen 6C, and Zen 6LP cores across different models.
Medusa1 and Medusa2 will focus on laptops, with some chips expected to offer up to 22 cores and 44 threads. Medusa2 will serve lower-cost systems, while higher-end Medusa Halo processors are expected to include RDNA 5 graphics.
AMD is expected to launch Olympic Ridge and Medusa processors in early 2027, with several laptop designs likely to appear around CES 2027.
