Linux 7.3 Adds AMD Zen 6 Support, Ryzen AI Halo RGB Controls, and Major Laptop Improvements

Linux 7.3 is expanding hardware support across AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 processors, Ryzen AI systems, laptops, and gaming handhelds, giving users broader device compatibility as newer hardware reaches the market. The kernel update also brings several platform driver changes for ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, LG, MSI, and other manufacturers.

Phoronix reports that Linux 7.3 adds early support for AMD’s next-generation Zen 6 architecture through updates to the AMD HSMP and PMF platform drivers. The HSMP driver now supports Protocol v7 for Zen 6 Family 1Ah Model 80H processors, while AMD PMF adds support for the same CPU family along with a new ioctl interface for exposing device metrics.

Linux 7.3 expands support across laptops and handhelds

Linux 7.3 also introduces a Ryzen AI Halo LED driver that lets users control LEDs and RGB lighting on Ryzen AI Halo mini PCs powered by Ryzen AI Max+ processors directly through Linux.

ASUS systems gain support for the dedicated ProArt key on the ProArt PX13, while the Armoury driver can now adjust power limits across more devices. HP laptops receive GPU MUX switching and separate CPU and GPU PWM fan controls, while newer Lenovo ThinkPads gain USB Type-C security support that allows charging while blocking data transfers.

Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro support also arrives with this release, while Uniwill-based laptops gain keyboard backlight controls, AC auto-boot, and USB power sharing. Gaming handheld support also expands through support for MSI Claw M Center keys and the recently launched OneXPlayer X2 Mini Pro, making Linux 7.3 a broader hardware-focused update across AMD-powered portable systems.
