Illinois museum’s replica of talking car from TV show ‘Knight Rider’ gets speeding ticket in NYC
by Juliet La Sala · The Washington TimesA replica of the talking car from the ’80s TV crime series “Knight Rider,” which has been on display in an Illinois museum for years, got a speeding ticket last month — in New York City, news outlets report.
The Volo Museum, home of the 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am named KITT, received the $50 citation in the mail, which said the car was caught speeding in a school zone on April 22, CNN reports.
Museum officials said they suspect that New York City’s automated ticketing system mistakenly linked a real vehicle’s “KNIGHT” novelty license plate to their KITT replica on display.
The museum has requested a formal hearing to contest the ticket.
NBC aired “Knight Rider” from 1982 to 1986. It featured David Hasselhoff as a crime fighter who is aided by the technologically advanced muscle car KITT, voiced by William Daniels.
The original KITT that appeared in the series is on display at the Marconi Automotive Museum in California.
