Trump appoints intel chief Jay Clayton to coordinate federal government’s use of AI
by Susan Ferrechio · The Washington TimesPresident Trump on Sunday appointed Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to oversee a coordinated federal effort to advance artificial intelligence.
Mr. Trump said the Super Intelligence Force, or SIF, will coordinate federal agencies and departments “to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence.”

Mr. Clayton will lead the SIF along with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Office of Personnel and Management Director Scott Kupor and Emil Michael, under secretary of defense for research and engineering, Mr. Trump said.
“The Super Intelligence Force will coordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies,” the president posted on Truth Social.
Mr. Trump said AI technology is “bigger than the Industrial Revolution and the Internet and will protect the interests, and improve the lives of all Americans.”
The announcement follows a White House meeting last week between Mr. Trump and top AI leaders, who signed a “morally binding” agreement to police AI development and ensure it does not become dangerous amid warnings that the rapidly advancing technology could become impossible to control.
The pact was signed by Mr. Trump and the CEOs of SpaceXAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI and Nvidia.

Mr. Trump also signed an executive order calling for AI to be renamed Super Intelligence, or SI, across federal agencies.
Mr. Trump’s moves to oversee AI follow calls for legislation that would require the government to impose guardrails on the technology or even ban it.
