Slim Chances for Light Snow On Thanksgiving in Oklahoma

It's going to be a chilly Thanksgiving in Oklahoma! Another cold front is expected to blow through Oklahoma on Wednesday, and it may bring with it a few flurries early Thanksgiving morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma has chance - a very slim chance - for a few sprinkles or light snow flurries early Thanksgiving morning. But if you're traveling, don't fret! The snow isn't expected to accumulate, therefore travel shouldn't be impacted by snow or any winter precipitation on Thanksgiving.

Oklahoma last had snow on Thanksgiving in 1968.

Last week, future forecast was showing several inches of snow in Oklahoma. But those chances are now long gone, and all that's really guaranteed from Oklahoma on Thanksgiving is cold temperatures.

On its Facebook page, the National Weather Service in Norman provided data for the years Oklahoma received snow on Thanksgiving. The average for snow on Thanksgiving in Oklahoma is basically zero, but there were a few years where Oklahoma saw some flurries and accumulated snow.

In 1958 and 1959, Oklahoma didn't have any snow accumulate on the ground but the state did see some new snowfall. But on Thanksgiving in 1968, Oklahoma received one to three inches of accumulated snow.

Chilly temperatures expected in Oklahoma on Thanksgiving this year!

With the slight chance for sprinkles or snow flurries in the early morning on Thanksgiving, Oklahoma can also expect chilly temperatures. Thanksgiving morning will see temperatures in the 20s and 30s across most of the state. And by the afternoon, temperatures will warm slightly into the 40s and low 50s. There will also be brisk north wind that will create some cold wind chills.

So if you're going to be outside frying a turkey, make sure you layer up and get out that winter coat!

Oklahoma's Weirdest Thanksgiving Foods

There is no shortage of weird Thanksgiving traditions around the Sooner State. Even my own family celebrates in our own unique way. Half of us hate turkey, and the others hate ham. Mom hates to spend days cooking for a 20-minute meal, and we all get tired of the leftovers. Instead, we have either a taco fiesta or a Chef Boyardee pizza kit party. Nobody complains.

We're not the only family with a weird Thanksgiving tradition, just take a look at these shockingly common Oklahoma TG dishes. It's amazing what the cooks come up with.
