Amarillo Residents Can Get Free Spay and Neuter Services for Pets

· NewsTalk 1290

It's one of those things you probably want to do if you have a pet in Amarillo, but sometimes it can get a little pricey to do so. That would be spaying or neutering your pet. Unless you're a breeder, you don't want babies running around.

Many decide not to do this crucial step, mainly because of the cost of it, and in these economic times, it's something many view as unnecessary. However, we do tend to have a lot of strays running around the city, and this is a part of it.

Free Spay & Neuter Surgeries

Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare is doing its best to help with this, so if you need to have your pet spayed or neutered, you'll want to keep reading this. They are offering free spay and neuter surgeries for free, but by appointment only.

If you're a Potter County resident who lives in Amarillo, you might qualify for this free service. It's funded through the Texas Department of State Health Services Animal Friendly Grant, and while funding is limited, they're going to try to offer this through August.

How Do I Sign Up

As mentioned before, you must live in Potter County and inside Amarillo, and be able to show proof of residency. Your pet must be at least three months old, and you can receive services for up to four pets inside your household.

All services are by appointment only, so you can't just show up, and they'll be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. You can give AAMW a call at 806-378-7821 for more info and set up an appointment.
