El Paso Moms and Daughters Can Learn Car Confidence for Free This Saturday

· NewsTalk 1290

A brand new community event is hitting El Paso this weekend, and it is aimed at one of the most important transitions a family can face, sending a daughter off to college. Pass the Baton Foundation is hosting THE ROAD AHEAD on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Southwest University at El Paso, located at 6500 Montana Ave, and the best part? It is completely free.

What Is THE ROAD AHEAD Event?

THE ROAD AHEAD was built specifically for high school students, college-bound young women, and their mothers. The idea is simple: before a young woman drives off to a new chapter of her life, she should feel confident behind the wheel and know what to do when things go sideways on the road.

The event is packed with hands-on programming, including:

  • 16-point vehicle inspections
  • Tire changing lessons
  • Interactive safety demonstrations
  • Community vendors and educational resources
  • Free lunch and goodie bags
  • Raffle prizes and giveaways

Faculty and staff from Southwest University at El Paso will be on-site providing educational demonstrations and curriculum tailored to help young women feel more prepared and capable on the road.

The Woman Behind the Event

The event was organized by Bea Santana-Gaskins, Founder of Pass the Baton Foundation. "Our goal is to empower mothers and daughters with practical safety knowledge while creating a fun and engaging community experience," Santana-Gaskins said. "Whether students are preparing for college, driving independently for the first time, or simply learning how to handle unexpected situations on the road, we want them to feel confident, informed, and supported."
