How You Can Help Families Impacted By Amarillo Area Wildfires

· NewsTalk 1290

The wildfires that have ripped through the Amarillo and Canyon area over the last week have been absolutely devastating. The Hunggate Fire and Stinky Fire have taken homes, businesses, and vast amounts of land with them.

Any time there are wildfires, there's the potential for people to lose everything, sadly, and some have. In these moments, most people would think of their homes lost, trying to figure out what's next, and then there are things they don't immediately think about. This is where the community always steps up.

Clothing Drive In Progress

Inside those homes are people's lives. The memories, material items, and items that can never be replaced. The grief one goes through has to be unimaginable, and that is something that can cloud their thinking, I would imagine. You don't immediately think about the daily things that are needed that are inside those homes.

Clothing would definitely be one of those things. Entire wardrobes were lost, and that creates an immediate need for those affected. To me, it would be one of those secondary things I'd personally think about since I would have clothes on. It's not something that would hit me until the next day. There is currently a clothing drive happening right now, and you can help.

On Saturday, May 23, there will be a distribution day for clothing items to help those affected by the fires. The event will happen at Redeemer Christian Church from 10 am to 3 pm, and they're still looking for donations.

If you would like to donate, you can bring items to the church during business hours throughout the week, as well as on the day of the drive. Adult and children's clothing, shoes, blankets, and jackets/outerwear are being accepted.
