[Review] Amarillo’s Newest Food Truck Smashing to the Scene

· NewsTalk 1290

Here in Amarillo, we are big fans of food. Any event we go to has to have food. Heck, it's not an event without a lot of good food. The best part about events all over Amarillo these days is the ease of getting food trucks to show up. It's a win-win. There is food and sometimes we get to try a new place.

Recently a food truck reached out to me about their new truck. They are called Smash That'z. When I got the message I thought they must be pretty new because I didn't know about them. They started their business back in September.

They invited me out to an event out at The Texas Panhandle War Memorial. That has turned into a great spot to get some great food. So I had to try them out. When I got there I had a conversation with Norma. She is the one who sent the invite.

She wanted to know what I wanted to try. I am one of the lucky few who will try anything. I have no food restrictions. The spicier the better even. I told her to make me a few of her favorite things.

She sent me on my way with a smash burger, some smash fries, and a Philly steak sandwich. So I got the food home and was very excited to give them a try.

The first thing I wanted to try was the Bacon Jam Smash Burger. This was my first time trying a smash burger. I know I am behind the times on that. The burger was topped with bacon, jalapenos, onions, and some sort of jam that hinted at a bit of sweetness. It had a taste that I could only explain as a syrup sort of taste. It was perfect. The bite had the jalapeno heat chased by the sweetness.

My first experience with the smash burger was a success, but I had more food to try.

I next tried the smash burger fries. Ooh, they looked so good. I was ready to dig in. I mean you can't have a good burger without fries or something on the side. These were loaded so I was ready.

Their fries are a crinkly fry and these were topped with meat from a smash burger, onions, bacon, and queso. What a combination. Even though I was trying to save some room for the next item on my menu it was hard to stop from eating more of the burger and fries. Don't worry I saved some for my lunch the next day. It took some restraint. I did it, though.

I had the Smash Philly to try next. I love a good Philly sandwich. This one looked fantastic. It tasted just as good.

It was going to make a mess eating it. That is just fine. Anything that falls off the sandwich and into the box is just more food I get to eat later, right? There is nothing wrong there. The Philly Smash had Philly Steak, Swiss Cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and jalapenos it is drenched with the perfect amount of ranch dressing.

So if you head out to an event or just drive around town and see Smash That'z out, give them a try. You will not be disappointed.
