22 Animals Need a Home and Your Kid’s Grades Could Help Make It Happen

Kids all over Amarillo are wrapping up school, and they have worked their behinds off trying to keep their report cards showing straight A's all year. The one thing those kids wanted was a pet. It's time to reward their hard work. In all truth, this is the only time a report card will be worth something in May.

While thousands of students are wrapping up the school year and even more students are graduating all over the Amarillo area, there are multiple animals at the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare that want to graduate from a kennel.

Why These 22 Animals Have Been Waiting So Long

Twenty-two animals are waiting for their graduation day. The day someone walks in and says, "I want that good boy or good girl", is the day they get to go home. These animals have been at the AMW for over 50 days waiting for their forever home.

Why Summer Is the Best Time to Adopt a Pet

Now's the perfect time for these animals to walk to their Pomp and Circumstance. And there is no better way to reward your child at the end of a hard school year than bringing home a new pet. They are out of school and will be able to be around their new pet, working on acclimating them to their new home, teaching them new tricks, and getting all the cuddles, hugs, and belly rubs they could possibly want.

How the Diploma Discount Actually Works

Here's why it's the perfect time to adopt these long-stay residents. These twenty-two animals will be available for half off the standard adoption fees. AMW will also have "Diploma Discounts," which means that if you bring a recent report card or your diploma, students will be able to get an even bigger adoption discount. Students with all A's will get an additional $20 off the adoption fee.

• Microchip

This adoption event will take place Saturday, May 23 - Monday, May 25.
