Amarillo has seen many business closures over the last few years, and when it looks like a business is about to close, you will see the signs.

It's not uncommon to see inventory slowly disappear from a business, or for shelves to suddenly look clear. It may show up as a possible remodel, but most of the time, it's a sign that the business is about to close.

What Empty Shelves Usually Signal for Businesses

That is exactly what is going on at one Amarillo business. If you have shopped at Mardel recently, you have probably noticed many empty shelves. Empty shelves usually mean impending doom for a business.

While rumors have been floating that Mardel may be closing in Amarillo, is that all it is, or are other things happening with the store?

Amarillo Has Seen Christian Bookstores Close Before

It wouldn't be the first time a Christian bookstore has slowly lost inventory and closed. Lifeway Christian Bookstore announced it was closing in March 2019 and officially closed in May 2019, moving the store to a fully online platform.

The company closed its storefront and went exclusively to online sales.

Mardel Corporate Responds to Amarillo Closing Rumors

The Amarillo Mardel location is definitely not closing, nor are there plans to relocate.

We are simply reducing slow moving inventory at clearance prices.

Mardel lives! The store is still open with no plans to close. The empty store shelves are the result of the company clearing out old inventory.
