Late September heat might break Dutch records as highs set to reach 28°C midweek

Unusually high temperatures for late September are expected across the Netherlands this week, with highs of 25-28 degrees Celcius in many areas. According to Weeronline, several heat records could therefore fall. Showers moving in from the west Wednesday evening will push the warmth out and may produce thunderstorms. After that, highs are to settle near 20 degrees, with Thursday set to be the cloudiest and the wettest day.

On Monday, temperatures are likely to reach 25 degrees in Limburg. The west and north will see the highs between 19 and 20 degrees, with occasional light rain and ample clouds. Temperatures will range from 21 to 24 degrees from Utrecht to Enschede.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be even warmer all over the country. The temperatures will climb above 25 degrees in large parts of the country. It could also get up to 30 degrees locally.

Late September normally averages around 17 degrees, making current warmth remarkable, the weather service notes. De Bilt, where the national measurements are taken, has never recorded 25 degrees on the last days of September. This week, therefore, could break several temperature records.

The weather pattern is set to change Wednesday evening. Showers will push in from the west, driving out the heat. The thunderstorms will also be possible.

The rest of the week is likely to be mild. Under a mix of sun and clouds, the temperature highs are set to stay around 20 degrees. Thursday is set to experience the most clouds and rain.
