Crucial Polderbaan runway at Schiphol Airport to close for annual maintenance

Schiphol Airport will close the Polderbaan runway for annual maintenance from Monday, May 4, through Tuesday, May 12, making it unavailable to air traffic on weekdays.

Aircraft that normally take off from or land on the Polderbaan will use other runways during that time, primarily the Zwanenburgbaan and the Buitenveldertbaan. At night, all air traffic will operate from the Zwanenburgbaan.

The airport expects residents near the runways that remain in use to experience more disturbance than usual because more planes will be arriving and departing from those locations.

"We realize that this change has an impact on our neighbors. That is why we plan the runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry out the maintenance as efficiently as possible," Schiphol said.

The airport anticipates limited inconvenience for travelers. Runway maintenance will coincide with the renewal of two aircraft taxiways.
