Lots of rail and roadworks scheduled in Netherlands this weekend

Those heading out and about using the train or road in the Netherlands this weekend had better check their travel planner and navigation apps first. ProRail has maintenance work planned that will affect train traffic on no fewer than 14 routes this weekend. Rijkswaterstaat is also planning roadworks at multiple locations.

NS explicitly warned travelers of railworks at Amsterdam Central Station this weekend. No trains at all will run to and from the capital’s main station on Saturday. And on Sunday and Monday, far fewer trains will be running. “Expect extra transfers and longer travel times,” the transport company said. “Plan your trip ahead of time.”

The work at and around Amsterdam Central Station will also affect the international trains to Hannover and Berlin, Brussels and Paris, Brussels and London, and Cologne and Frankfurt, ProRail warned. These trains’ schedules have been adjusted.

ProRail will also be doing rail works between Roosendaal and Goes, Rotterdam Central Station and Breda, Breda and Noorderkempen, Venlo and Breyell, Venray and Roermond, Blerick and Venlo, Maastricht and Liège, and around Zwolle.

Road traffic will also be affected by maintenance work this weekend. “The A16 toward Rotterdam will be closed between the Ridderkerk junction and the Terbregseplein junction, and work is being done on the A59 toward Den Bosch,” Rijkswaterstaat warned.

The infrastructure agency also has work planned on the A10 at De Nieuwemeer, the A6 toward Joure between Lelystad-Noord and Emmeloord, the A28 toward Zwolle between Amersfoort and the Hoevelaken junction, the A76 toward Heerlen at the Kerensheide junction, and the N3 in both directions in Dordrecht.

People using the railway are advised to check their travel planners before leaving home. Road users should check their navigation apps for detours and estimated travel times.
