Yellow alert remains in effect for heavy winds in coastal areas, western Wadden Islands
The KNMI warns of heavy wind gusts in coastal areas, the western Wadden Islands, and the Limburg hills from Saturday evening until at least Sunday morning. A yellow alert is in effect in those locations, with gusts of 75 to 100 kilometers per hour expected, varying by place.
Since Friday evening, it has already been blowing quite hard in many parts of the country, causing storm damage, including trees falling onto cars and trees and homes. From Saturday evening, low-pressure system Boelo will continue those strong winds.
On Saturday a code yellow weather warning for strong winds was in effect in Zuid-Holland, Zeeland, Limburg, Gelderland, Noord-Brabant, and Overjissel, following Storm Austen's arrival on Friday. Most severe winds came from the south.
The KNMI warns of traffic disruptions and braking branches. Because trees are still “in full leaf,” many branches, including smaller ones, can break off, the weather institute said.
Sunday weather is set to be unsettled and windy, with frequent showers, especially in the north. Gusts will reach up to 90 km/h near the coast and on the Wadden Islands, while staying weaker inland. The temperatures will range from 12 to 15 degrees, with the highest readings in the southwest.
