All 10 AI chatbots tested point consumers to unlicensed online gambling sites

According to the Keurmerk Verantwoorde Affiliates (KVA), which examines ten popular AI bots, such tools relatively easily expose Dutch consumers to unlicensed online gambling. In the conversations with the chatbots that were studied, all ten named at least one unlicensed online casino.

The tools tested include ChatGPT, Google AI Mide, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, Grock, DeepSeek, Mistral Le Chat, and Meta AI. Each tool was asked nine questions in Dutch, including about casinos. The study found that all the tools named at least one operator without a Dutch license in one or more chats.

Some tools mention unlicensed operators only in an informational context, for example, by referring to enforcement decisions. Others presented the features, such as high bonuses, absence of identity checks, faster payouts, and absence of Crucks controls, as advantages. The Crucks is the Dutch national register of people who have asked to be banned from gambling, and every legal casino must check that list and refuse them.

Furthermore, in three out of ten tools examined, brands without a Dutch license appeared in answers that presented them as legal and licensed. According to the KVA, that poses a risk. A Dutch consumer who asks an AI tool about legal online gambling should be able to rely on the accuracy of the information they found online, the watchdog said.
