Another hot day ahead with temps up to 35°C; Cooler weather from Wednesday

The Netherlands is in for another day of very hot weather, with maximums up to 35 degrees. “It will be downright sunny, but during the evening, the chance of a thunderstorm increases from the south,” Weeronline meteorologist Berend van Straaten said. Tuesday will also be hot, with maximums above 30 degrees, but cooler weather will follow from Wednesday.

The KNMI issued a code yellow heat warning, covering the entire country on Monday and Tuesday. The RIVM’s national heat plan is also in effect.

Monday will see clear skies, sunshine, and temperatures hitting 30 or higher almost everywhere. Maximums will range from 30 degrees in the north to up to 35 degrees in the southeast, with a light to moderate southeasterly wind.

The hot weather will continue well into the evening, with many places still being around 25 degrees by 9:00 p.m. During the course of the evening, cloud cover will increase in the south, and there is a chance of a thunderstorm. Overnight temperatures will not drop below 20 degrees in many places.

Tuesday will likely be quite cloudy, with a few local showers or thunderstorms and occasional sunshine. The afternoon will be hot and muggy, and may feel even hotter than on Monday. “In fact, with highs of 28 to 33 degrees combined with high humidity, it will be stiflingly hot,” Van Straaten said.

On Wednesday, a strong westerly wind will bring cooler air into the country. Temperatures will range from about 23 degrees in coastal areas to up to 28 degrees along the border with Germany. There will be lots of cloud cover and an occasional shower, but most places will be dry.

Thursday will be even cooler, with highs between 20 and 25 degrees. Sunshine and clouds will alternate, and there may be a shower or two, but no significant rain is expected.
