My mom has never thrown away a pair of jeans. She just moves them to the patch drawer, where they wait to become knees for other jeans. Last spring I counted 14 pairs in there. These 11 upcycling projects turned old jeans into a quilt, a jacket, a teddy bear and a few things nobody planned, and their makers explain how many pairs each one took.
