Dec. 25 (UPI) -- An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger flight from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed in Kazakhstan while attempting to make an emergency landing, with dozens feared dead.

The flight had departed from Baku, Azerbaijan, en route to Grozny, Russia, carrying passengers from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Russian news agencies said the plane was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines and had been flying from Baku to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya, but had been rerouted due to fog in Grozny.
