APC demands rescue of Adelabu’s sister, twin sons
by Adeola Balogun · The Eagle OnlineThe All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, and her twin sons by gunmen in Ibadan.
The opposition party on Wednesday called on Governor Seyi Makinde to work closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to address what it described as a worsening security situation in the state.
Busayo and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the attackers trailed the vehicle conveying the victims from their residence before intercepting them around 7:30am and whisking them away.
In a statement, Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, linked the incident to growing concerns over unresolved kidnapping cases in the state, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and two members of staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Oluyole Local Government Area.
Sadare said: “We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the Federal, State and Local Government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo with a view to tightening all the loose ends and ensure maximum protection of lives and property of the citizens regardless of their background, economic or socio-political status.”

The party also demanded the immediate rescue of all kidnapping victims currently being held by their abductors.
Sadare said: “We demand immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees, two CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul and her children as well as others who are in captivity at the moment while we also call for concerted efforts from the governments (particularly Governor Makinde) and security agencies to arrest the ugly trend of kidnappings and violent attacks against residents of the state.”
He added: “No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety as is the situation with the residents of Oyo at the moment and it is on this premise that we call on Governor Makinde to come down from his high horse and seek help where necessary so that the situation does not degenerate further.
“As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad.” The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said an investigation had commenced.
Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, urged residents to remain calm as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
The latest incident comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in Oyo State. More than 40 teachers and pupils were reportedly kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during an attack on Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area.
The state has also witnessed other high-profile abductions, including that of APC chieftain Wale Oriade, who was seized by armed men in Ibadan in December 2025.
