A sailboat flying the United Kingdom flag suffered a mechanical failure late Sunday, August 30, while sailing approximately 13 nautical miles off Rhodes.

Three foreign nationals were aboard the vessel and remain in good health. Local port authorities mobilised to respond to the incident.

A tugboat is towing the sailboat towards the port of Rhodes, with a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel and a rescue boat assisting the operation.

Westerly winds of around 5 Beaufort were blowing in the area when the mechanical failure occurred.

The towing operation remains underway, while port authorities monitor the vessel’s progress towards Rhodes and coordinate the response.
