Pedestrians violating crossing rules to be fined Up to Ks30,000 starting May 14

The YRTC stated that action will be taken against pedestrians who violate traffic safety and vehicle management regulations. Under the law, offenders can be fined up to 30,000 kyats.
Daw Thiri Swe, head of the Western District Office under the Road Transport Administration Department, said that Rule 327 of the Traffic Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Regulations requires pedestrians to use designated crossing points, including zebra crossings, pedestrian overpasses, and underground passages when crossing roads.
She added that under Section 96 of the 2020 Traffic Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law, anyone who fails to comply with the rules, regulations, or official orders can be punished with a fine not exceeding 30,000 kyats.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring the safety of road users by using pedestrian crossings, underpasses, and overpasses in accordance with traffic rules and regulations.

Once the campaign education period ends, those who do not comply will continue to be subject to disciplinary action according to the established rules.
