A Lot of People Saw Everything

by · VULTURE

You Can See Everything, the new doc from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim about Theranos scamstress Elizabeth Holmes, handily broke box office records this weekend. The film is now the highest-opening non-musical documentary in 10 years, crushing Melania’s record from earlier this year. That movie made $7 million on its opening, while YCSE brought in a cool $15 mil. And the thing’s got legs, so expect more broken doc records to come.

That being said, You Can See Everything was not seen by everyone. That honor goes to Street Fighter, which topped the box office with $31 million. The video game movie made another $20.1 mil overseas, giving it a worldwide opening of $51.1 million. A decent opening, but when compared with the other two video game movies this year, not exactly a hadouken.

Other Mommy held on in the box office top 5, landing at no. 3 with $8.3 million in its second week. At number 4 came $8 million with Whalefall. Perhaps people have OD’d on seeing Austin Abrams covered in goo? Number 5 was the debut for Sense and Sensibility, with $7.2 million. Not exactly a dowry sizeable enough to tempt Mr. Willoughby.
