Exmouth’s first-ever Pride march goes ahead with 'vibrant' defiance after weeks of silent standoff

Exmouth marked its first ever pride march with an explosion of colour, music and celebration.

This year's Exmouth Pride was held in Manor Gardens and featured the town's first pride march along the seafront on Saturday, June 20.

Despite weeks of a silent standoff between Exmouth Pride organisers and an unknown group who kept removing promotional banners from several locations in town, members of the LGBTQ+ community and their loved ones turned up regardless.

There was live music and entertainment throughout the day at the bandstand, stalls selling all kinds of merchandise and offering support information, as well as a bar and food stalls.

In addition to the main event and after party, held at the Bath House, the town itself dressed up for the occasion. Storefronts and charity shops in the town centre were decorated with pride flags, showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Following the event, Exmouth Pride oragnisers said: "What an incredible day! We hope you had as much fun celebrating at Exmouth Pride as we did. From the march right through to the after party, it was amazing to see our community come together in such a vibrant and joyful way."

The Facebook post continued: "Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, sponsored, supported and helped make the day such a success. Pride is only possible because of the people who believe in creating a visible, inclusive and welcoming space for our LGBTQ+ community."
