Report: Ghana wins US$393m tax dispute against Tullow Ghana
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comFinance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that an international arbitral tribunal has ruled in favour of Ghana in a tax dispute with Tullow Ghana Limited, upholding a tax assessment of US$393.09 million by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Dr Forson said the tribunal dismissed all claims brought by Tullow over the taxation of business interruption insurance proceeds.
“The Tribunal ruled in favour of Ghana,” he said, adding that it found the tax assessment lawful and upheld the penalty imposed by the GRA.
Dr Forson said the outcome affirmed the government’s position that “every company operating in this country, regardless of its size, is subject to the laws of Ghana.”
He added that government would continue discussions with Tullow to resolve the tax dispute and a separate matter concerning the disallowance of loan interest, while ensuring the company can sustain its operations and investments in the Jubilee and TEN fields.
