Man to appear in court charged over fatal house fire

A man in his 20s arrested as part of an investigation into a fatal house fire in Co Offaly last year has been charged.

Four-year-old Tadgh Farrell and 60-year-old Mary Holt died in a fire at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry on 6 December.

On Tuesday, gardaí made a number of arrests as part of their investigation.

Two men in their 20s, one in his 30s and a teenage boy, were detained.

A fifth arrest, a man in his 20s, was made on Wednesday evening.

Gardaí said this afternoon that the man charged will appear before Tullamore District Court this evening.

The four others arrested in connection with the investigation remain in custody.
