Number of Dutch millionaires jumps 23%, mainly due to rising home values
The Netherlands has once again seen an increase in the number of households with assets of €1 million or more, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). On January 1, 2025, the Netherlands had over 574,000 millionaire households - over 81,000 more than a year earlier, an increase of over 23 percent.
The number of millionaires in the Netherlands has been growing for years. CBS noted that the increase was primarily driven by rising home prices.
In early 2025, 6.6 percent of Dutch households held assets exceeding €1 million. The municipalities of Bloemendaal and Laren - both located in the affluent Gooi region - have a particularly high concentration of millionaire households, with nearly two out of every five households qualifying as millionaires.
According to CBS, two-thirds of Dutch millionaires possess assets between €1 million and €2million, while a quarter hold between €2 million and €5 million. A small fraction - 3 percent - have assets of €10 million or more.
A significant portion of Dutch millionaires’ wealth consists of a “substantial interest” - they own at least 5 percent of a company. Substantial shareholdings account for well over a third of their wealth.
The value of an owner-occupied home makes up 29 percent of the total wealth. For non-millionaires, the largest share of their assets - nearly 80 percent total - is the value of their home.
On Tuesday, the business magazine Quote also published its latest edition of the Quote 500, its annual list of the 500 wealthiest Dutch people. According to Quote, there are now 56 Dutch billionaires, up from 52 last year.
