Margot Robbie joins Tom Ackerley for shopping trip in Notting Hill
by JO MACFARLANE, HEALTH REPORTER · Mail OnlineHer racy new adaptation of Wuthering Heights promises plenty of fireworks and passion.
But when it comes to romance away from the silver screen, it appears Margot Robbie prefers to keep things low-key.
The Barbie star, 35, was spotted on a discreet shopping trip in Notting Hill with her husband, British producer Tom Ackerley, browsing the vintage clothing shops, art studios and antique shops.
And they eschewed the well-heeled restaurants of the celebrity-laden west London enclave to grab a £7.50 pitta wrap from vegan takeaway Falafel King, which Tom tucked into.
The laid-back couple – enjoying some time together without their one-year-old son – smiled and held hands as they passed almost unnoticed among shoppers on Portobello Road.
They paid particular attention to a vintage chest of drawers in one store, which Tom photographed.
Australian star Robbie carried a bag from designer Rejina Pyo's fashion and homeware boutique, while Tom had one from personalised perfume store Le Labo.
She dressed down in blue jeans and Converse trainers with a long leather coat, red beanie and sunglasses, while Tom, 35, wore a £400 Jacquemus hoodie.
Tom is a producer of the new sexually charged version of Wuthering Heights, directed by Saltburn's Emerald Fennell.
His wife plays the lead character Cathy Earnshaw, whose intense love for mysterious orphan Heathcliff – played by Jacob Elordi – leads to heartache and tragedy for two generations of families on the windswept Yorkshire moors.
Critics have slammed the casting of white Elordi as a character author Emily Bronte described as 'dark-skinned', while Robbie has been deemed 'too old' to play Cathy, who is a teenager in the novel.
But Fennell said the film 'needed somebody like Margot… somebody who has a godlike power, that means people lose their minds'.
